Color and Shading
As mentioned in 'Composition of the Last Supper', shading plays a big role in Da Vinci's The Last Supper. However, another huge element to the mural is Da Vinci's use of color. As aforementioned, Jesus' persona is illuminated and given much more light than the others, but light and dark are not the extent of what makes this painting memorable.
Firstly, almost all of the disciples, as well as Jesus, are wearing Blue. Particularly at the time of the Renaissance, this was a nod to them being more special than just ordinary people, although in reality the opposite was true.
Secondly, Jesus is the only one in the room wearing a particularly brights shade of Reddish/ orange. While some think this may have been in order to distinguish Christ from the rest, many also believe that it may have been foreshadowing for the tragic events that would befall upon Jesus.
The table they are eating on is also draped with white cloth, which is to show the purity and emotional cleanliness of Christ. Tablecloths certainly would not have been used by Jesus and the Disciples.
Q3: What, using coloring or shading, was done to somewhat distinguish Jesus from his disciples?
