Context of 'The LAst Supper'
Since the painting was displayed in the refectory of a convent, it had a particularly deep meaning tot he Nuns and priests that resided there. Since Milan, where the convent was located, was a city that was no stranger to the arts of the Renaissance, the Nuns and Priests may have been attempting to fit in with the rest of Italian Renaissance society, though there is no way they could've known how magnificent Da Vinci's mural would be, or how it is one of the most recognizable pieces of art in human history.
