Symbolism and arrangement of objects
In The Last Supper Leonardo Da Vinci tried to re-create the Biblical account of Jesus' last meal before before being scourged and crucified, for claiming to be the Son of God and the King of the Jews. The mural also contains plenty of symbolism, in various parts of the painting. For example, Jesus' posture and bodily action serves to create the image of a triangle, a metaphor for the holy trinity. Another symbol for the holy trinity are the three windows behind the dinner crowd.
Da Vinci also used shading and lighting to great effect in The Last Supper, the brightest area of the painting is where Jesus is sitting, while Judas' face is covered in a shadow. The various looks of anger, shock, and confusion shared among the disciples was used to show how tumultuous the situation was, and how while the others were in various states of despair or outrage (in Judas' case, guilt), Jesus remains completely calm, and bright.
Q2: What number seems to consistently pop up in the painting, when analyzed for symbolism?
